The plan by hour
Start in the Sea Garden by the station, walk down to the sea and finish at sunset. Everything is walkable.
Sea Garden
A big park from the station to the beach. Steps lead down to the sandy shore. It has the Sea Casino, the “Snail” amphitheatre with evening concerts and sculptures.
📍 On mapSea Bridge and Central Beach
A T-shaped pier with a viewing platform over the sea: the best view of the bay, with cafés nearby. In summer boats to St Anastasia Island leave from the bridge (check the timetable).
📍 On mapCathedral of Sts Cyril and Methodius and Troyka Square
The main church of the centre. Nearby are early 20th-century buildings and the Armenian church Surp Khach.
📍 On mapLunch: Bulgarian cuisine
Shopska salad, banitsa, kebapche. “Zlatna Kotva” is the city’s oldest restaurant, open since 1927, at the entrance to the Sea Garden. More on the Where to eat page.
One museum of your choice
Ethnographic: in an 1873 house at the south end of the Sea Garden; Archaeological: 21 Bogoridi St; Historical: 31 Lermontov St; a gallery in a former synagogue. An hour is enough.
📍 On mapBeach or seafront
Central Beach by the bridge is for walks and swimming; North Beach has surf, kitesurf and dive schools. The swimming season runs roughly from mid-May to late September.
📍 On mapSunset by the sea
Go back to the bridge or the Sea Casino. There are concerts at the “Snail” in the evening.
📍 On mapDinner: seafood
Neptune: in the Old Town by the sea; Bistro Oreha: mussels with herbs. More on the Where to eat page.
Places are described from our Sights, Where to eat and Beaches pages.
Rain, kids or short on time
The plan is easy to rearrange: several stops can be swapped.
Rain
Swap the bridge and beach for museums: Ethnographic, Archaeological, Historical, Natural History and the gallery. They are close to each other in the centre.
📍 On mapWith kids
The Sea Garden, the beach and the bridge. For fun there is the puppet theatre and “Puppet Days” and water bikes. See the Leisure page.
📍 On mapOnly 3–4 hours
Keep the Sea Garden, the bridge and the cathedral. Have lunch at the garden entrance and head to the station or airport.
📍 On mapYou have a car and an evening
Poda Reserve is ten minutes south on the Sozopol road: observation terraces for birds. Autumn is the main migration.
📍 On mapThe centre of Burgas is compact, and parking is paid in the blue and green zones.
From the airport
Bus no. 15 to the station takes about 25–30 minutes (it does not run at night). A taxi to the centre is roughly €8–14.
