Cars, scooters and bicycles for rent
A car is convenient for trips along the coast and into Strandzha. Several rental companies have offices at Burgas airport, and in the Sea Garden you can rent a bicycle.
Rental at the airport
The airport has offices of nine rental companies (according to the directory). Compare terms: insurance, deposit, mileage limit.
Documents
A driving licence is required. According to directories, rental companies ask for an international licence; check the terms with the company.
Bicycles
There is bicycle rental in the Sea Garden. The routes along the lakes and the coast are convenient.
Quad bikes
Quad safaris run near the village of Marinka between Burgas and Sozopol. We found no data on scooter rental in the sources.
Roads
The E87 road leads from Burgas towards Sozopol. Roads to Arapya and into Strandzha can be unpaved.
Parking
The arena in Burgas has about 800 spaces and a three-level car park. At the old towns of Nessebar and Sozopol, park outside and walk in.
The airport is not far from the city, about 10 km to the centre. There is a city bus and taxis, but for a night arrival and trips between resorts it is better to book a transfer in advance.
Taxi at the airport
Taxis at the airport are run by “Eko Taxi”. A metered ride to the centre costs roughly €8–14 (source estimates differ, some say from €18).
Bus No. 15
Runs from the airport to the railway station, about 25–30 minutes. Buses do not run at night: on a late arrival take a taxi or a booked transfer.
Booked transfer
A pre-arranged ride at a fixed price, from about €25 for a sedan (according to booking sites). The driver meets you in the arrivals hall.
Between resorts
Buses run from Burgas to Nessebar once an hour, between the bay resorts every 15 minutes. South of Sozopol it is easier by taxi or your own car.
Eurovision
The organisers promise separate transport for spectators. Details are on the Eurovision page.
Tip
Agree the price before you get in, ask for the meter to be turned on and keep small change.
Bulgaria has three mobile operators: A1, Vivacom and Yettel. For a short trip people often take a tourist SIM card or an eSIM.
Operators
A1, Vivacom and Yettel. According to 2026 reviews, A1 launched 5G in Burgas, Sofia, Plovdiv and Varna. 4G covers more than 99% of populated areas (according to an eSIM provider).
Prices (guide)
Tariffs are now in euros. According to a comparison from 16 September 2026: A1 Holiday Plus — 1.5 GB for 10 days about €3; Yettel tourist eSIM — 25 GB about €10; prepaid A1 package 20 GB for 30 days about €12.
eSIM
It is activated with a QR code with no physical card; you need a phone that supports eSIM and is unlocked from its carrier.
Roaming
EU residents are covered by EU roaming rules. Everyone else is better off with a local SIM or an eSIM.
Packages and prices change, so before buying look at the operators' current offers. eSIM ordering through the site is on the Eurovision page.
Money, exchange and ATMs
Since 1 January 2026 Bulgaria has used the euro. Cards are accepted in cities and resorts, while cash helps out at markets and in villages.
Euro
Since 1 January 2026 the euro is the only official currency. The fixed rate is 1 € = 1.95583 lev. The lev is no longer accepted for payments.
ATMs
On 1 January 96% of ATMs dispensed euros; the rest were due to switch within a couple of weeks. Check your bank's and the ATM's fees.
Exchanging lev
Leftover lev can be exchanged free of charge at the Bulgarian National Bank with no deadline. At commercial banks free exchange was available until 30 June 2026; after that fees are possible.
Other currencies
Dollars, pounds and hryvnias are exchanged at exchange offices and banks. Compare the rate and fee, and never change money on the street.
Cards and cash
Large shops, restaurants and hotels in tourist places accept cards. At markets, from street vendors and in villages cash is more often needed.
Exchange rate on the site
The current EUR, USD and UAH rates are shown on the home page.
Health: pharmacies, doctors, dentists
112 works free of charge from any phone. For an ambulance call 150. Take out medical insurance before the trip and keep a list of clinics at hand.
Emergency numbers
112 is the single emergency number, free and round-the-clock, and works even outside your operator's network. 150 — ambulance, 166 — police, 160 — fire brigade.
State hospital
UMBAL Burgas is the city's main state hospital and accepts emergencies. Directories disagree on the address (most often Stefan Stambolov Blvd 73), so check before visiting.
Private clinics
The British Foreign Office directory lists the private Virgin Mary Hospital (Vetren) in Burgas with emergency care. Private clinics usually ask for payment up front.
Pharmacies
Look for the “Денонощна аптека” (24-hour pharmacy) sign. In tourist areas pharmacists usually speak a little English. Prescription medicines are issued only with a prescription.
Dentists
Directories for Burgas list the clinics BurgasDent (Probuda St 73), Prima Dent (Mihail Gerdzhikov St 12) and Dental X Office 3 (Knyaz Boris I St 2). Prices start from €18. This is not a recommendation, read the reviews.
Insurance
EU citizens with an EHIC card receive care on the same terms as Bulgarians. Life-threatening care is provided regardless of citizenship; planned treatment is paid.
Car repair, hairdressers, laundries
There are few verified addresses for these services in open sources, so we will not make anything up. Below is how to solve things now, and we will add addresses after checking.
